| | "...The question is: How do you want to live your life? What do you want to do? Who are you?" - Dan Mazur, National Recognized Adventure Guide, nationalgeographic.com
Join colleagues for the NASP Regional Fall Conference in beautiful Portland, Oregon. To highlight the theme of best practices, the keynote speaker will be Dan Mazur, dubbed an American hero by the international press for his unselfish and heroic act of saving a life while climbing Mt. Everest. Dan will share the extraordinary account of his team's rescue of an Australian climber named Lincoln Hall who had been presumed dead and left by himself high atop the frigid Mt. Everest. The Emmy nominated NBC documentary of the rescue recounts that "while others passed Hall by, Mazur, who was leading an expedition just in reach of the summit, decided to stop and save Hall's life. Mazur [says] he never questioned whether or not to help the disoriented and frostbitten Hall, saying, ‘How could you sleep a good sleep at night thinking that you passed somebody who needed your help? I mean, that's just the way I was raised'." - Dateline, NBC, June 25, 2007 When not leading climbs, Dan spends his time lecturing and raising funds for the Mount Everest Foundation, building hospitals, schools, and environmental projects with the low-income families who live around Mt. Everest. Dan has been featured in the world press discussing the ethics of mountain climbing.
