2012 Syllabus
What is ELI? The Emerging Leaders Institute is a year-long leadership
development program designed to inspire and cultivate professional
development and strong leadership within
the association. The program's design combines networking opportunities
and hands-on experiences that prepare participants for greater
involvement in NASP/NAEOP, state
chapters, and strengthen professional growth.
What types and level of commitments are required
for participation? A full day training will be held the day prior to the annual
regional conference. This will be
followed by monthly 1-hour teleconference calls
to continue training topics that include:
Leadership Styles Team Building Time and Project Management Parlimentary Procedures NASP/NAEOP Constitution and History NASP/NAEOP Board Operations COE History Advocacy Efforts
In addition, participants will be expected to develop and complete a project related to leadership within the association to be presented at the NASP/NAEOP Annual Conference. Full participation in all activities is expected of ELI candidates.
What is the financial cost for participation in ELI? Travel and per diem for the full day training will be provided by NASP/NAEOP. As participants will be expected to present their ELI project at the Annual Conference, the participant's TRIO project will be expected to sponsor him/her to attend the NASP/NAEOP Annual Conference.
What if I change jobs? Participation in ELI is incumbent upon active employment in a TRIO program in the NASP/NAEOP region and paid program membership in the association. Participation will be terminated should these criteria not be fully met.
What if my supervisor is not fully supportive of my participation in ELI? It is important that, either prior to or in the application process, applicants conduct a meaningful discussion with his/her supervisor to fully discuss the time commitments required and ways the program will accomodate and support the participant's involvement in ELI. This website may be used to initiate the discussion.
